The investigation report regarding The Dunham Trust issued by the ESFA is important reading for all involved in running and scrutinising the operation of academy trusts.

Ensuring that everybody in the trust understands their role; those roles align with what is expected of the sector; there are effective procedures for authorising and scrutinising spending decisions; and that those procedures are followed are vital components for good governance and financial control.

The investigation report, published today, revealed that the trust made multiple breaches of the academies financial handbook through a lack of oversight of financial operations, misuse of public funds and internal control weaknesses.
