Safeguarding in the community: Introducing our webinar series for housing and care providers

Anthony Collins is pleased to invite housing and care professionals to a three-part webinar series focused on safeguarding in the community. In delivering this series, we are delighted to be partnering with Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), a leading voice working across different disciplines and sectors to shape and support better safeguarding at both national and local levels.

In light of growing political, economic and social pressures, we are increasingly being asked to advise providers facing complex challenges in delivering their services, and seeing providers scrutinised as part of complaints, regulatory inspections, inquests and investigations in respect of their safeguarding practices.

Our webinar series is designed to help housing and care providers understand their responsibilities and offers practical guidance on meeting them day to day. The sessions are aimed at those with safeguarding responsibilities at both strategic and operational levels, including frontline staff, managers and governance leads.

  • Webinar 1: Mental capacity - Wednesday 19 November, 2pm
In our first webinar, delivered in partnership with SCIE, we will revisit the principles of mental capacity and explore how to respond to complex, real-life scenarios, such as when individuals repeatedly make decisions that may increase risk despite receiving advice and support.
  • Webinar 2: What does a good partnership look like? - Friday 21 November, 2pm
In our second webinar session delivered in partnership with SCIE, we will explore partnership working in the context of safeguarding and how housing and care providers can do this effectively in order to meet their safeguarding responsibilities. We will look at the frameworks that underpin multi-agency working, safeguarding investigations, domestic homicide reviews/domestic abuse related death reviews, the Safeguarding Adults Board and more.
  • Webinar 3: Delivering day-to-day safeguarding - Thursday 27 November, 2pm
The final session will address common safeguarding challenges faced by housing and care providers in the community, including hoarding, self-neglect, third-party abuse and cuckooing. We’ll discuss how to manage these situations in a way that promotes safety and well-being while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.

Drawing on expertise from our regulatory, housing litigation, and Court of Protection teams we will consider topics including the expectations of key regulators such as the CQC and the Regulator of Social Housing; how to balance the needs of individuals with those of the wider community; who to approach when you have concerns about an individual and what steps to take if you feel your concerns are not being heard.
