Fundraising in retail spaces - new guidance

For any charities that fundraise via bucket collections in retail premises (supermarkets and the like), the Fundraising Regulator has issued new guidance

Whilst this is written for the retailers, charities/fundraisers themselves will need to ensure their contracts with retailers include relevant terms to comply with the guidance. Key terms for fundraisers are:

Legitimate identification:

Fundraisers must provide valid identification upon arrival and retailers should keep a record of it.

Sealed donation containers:

All containers used to collect donations must be sealed and undamaged at the start and throughout the collection.

Clear fundraising materials:

Fundraising materials should clearly display the charity's name and registration number (or the agency/C.I.C. details).

Respectful behaviour:

Fundraisers should not engage in unacceptable behaviours such as smoking, drinking, or using illegal drugs while in branded clothing.
