Increase in rejected LPA applications

New data published has shown that nearly 130,000 lasting power of attorney (LPA) applications have been rejected by the Office of the Public Guardian over the last five years due to mistakes. It also has revealed that on average, it took 91.5 working days to register and dispatch an LPA.

The process of preparing an LPA can be complex. There are various options available regarding the appointment of attorneys and it's recommended professional advice is sought to ensure you are making the right choice for you. There is a specific order of signing and many other hoops to jump through to ensure your application is processed without delay. Although it's perfectly possible to prepare your own LPAs and register these personally, seeking professional assistance will minimise the risk of an application being rejected and as a result, reduce the time taken to get these important documents in place.

Our team can advise and assist with all aspects of the application and are happy to discuss this informally in the first instance.

According to Freedom of Information (FOI) data obtained by Quilter, there were over 29,000 rejected applications over the last year alone, brining the total since 2018 to 127,848
