Human Rights Day

Human Rights Day is celebrated annually on 10 December.

This marks the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), a groundbreaking pledge made in 1948 to protect the rights of every person, regardless of their background.

At Anthony Collins, we work hard to defend our clients’ rights across various departments.

Looking at the bigger picture, human rights promote equality and fairness and are the foundation for peaceful, just, and inclusive societies, but they also shape our everyday lives. This year’s theme, 'Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now', highlights the fact that human rights are not just a grand vision, they are relevant and important to our daily lives.

We see the UDHR in action every day. For example:

Article 18: The freedom to practice your religion or beliefs. Christmas is a perfect example. Whether you're celebrating Christmas or simply enjoying the holiday spirit, you're exercising your right to believe and express that belief freely.

Article 19: The freedom of opinion and expression. Whether sharing gift ideas or writing a blog post about Human Rights Day, the UDHR protects your right to express yourself.

Article 23: The right to equal pay for equal work.

Article 24: The right to rest and leisure, including reasonable limitation of working hours and periodic holidays with pay. So, while you are (hopefully) enjoying some rest and leisure over the holiday period, remember that it is your right!
