Shared Ownership and the Renters' Rights Bill

Reading this article, I just wanted to make the case for the positive aspects of the reform of shared ownership possession laws.

Years ago, AC acted for the landlord in all those cases, which determined that shared ownership leases are fixed-term assured shorthold tenancies with all that means for termination.

As set out in this article, the new legislation will turn that on its head and shared ownership leaseholders generally benefit from the same termination protections as other leaseholders.

When shared owners get into difficulties it is my experience that registered providers do everything they can to keep the shared owner in their home and preserve their investment.

The new legislation, removing one of the criticisms of shared ownership, could lead to the rebirth of shared ownership as an intermediate housing solution.
