Opening up churches, freedom to.........?

As we wait to see what Boris says today about 19 July I have reflected on what Danny Webster from the Evangelical Alliance wrote last week about the impact of the lifting of the restrictions on churches. He rejoiced at the freedoms we will have and the fact that we will be able to sing again - hallelujah! But he also reflected that with freedom comes responsibility. Just because we can do something, doesn't mean it is the right thing to do. The obvious example is the wearing of masks - as infection rates rise why wouldn't we still wear them to protect each other - I am my brother's keeper after all.

It also reminded me of Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 9:

"Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. "

We are free to choose but in love we choose so often to lay down what we are allowed to do, so that others may come to know Him.

But what churches can do isn’t necessarily what they should do.... It is important that churches use these freedoms responsibly.
