Subsidy Control Bill - written evidence by Anthony Collins Solicitors

Anthony Collins Solicitor's written evidence was put before the Subsidy Control Bill select committee. In our submission, we proposed quite a significant change which would mean the new regime only regulates subsidies with cross-border impact between the UK and other countries (as was essentially the case under the state aid regime).

The select committee has not opted to include our proposed amendment in the latest version of the Bill. Doing so would involve quite a shift from the Government's proposed regime so this is perhaps not surprising.

The Subsidy Control Bill is due to receive its second reading in the House of Lords towards the end of the month.

We make this recommendation as we have serious concerns about the increased administrative burden that extending the regime to regulate measures within the UK will have.
